Welcome to Charlottesville!

A few photos from our first 2 weeks in our new city!

A day after moving into our new house, Lucas started preschool at Charlottesville Montessori.
It's a perfect fit for him as it's a multi-age classroom (ages 3-6) and Lucas loves big kids! They also spend the first week teaching/reinforcing manners and courtesy so we didn't have to worry about mean or grabby classmates. Montessori in general encourages their students to be independent, use adult objects (napkins, sliverware and glasses rather than sippy cup stuff), and allows uninterrupted "work time" where the kids can spend as much time as they want on a project or activity. Perfect for our little Mr. Long Attention Span Who Can Get His OWN Glass Of Applejuice. :)

A week later the movers arrived with 10 million boxes of our stuff. They unloaded everything into the right rooms and then returned the next morning to unpack for us! They just pulled everything out of the boxes so it looked like a tornado hit each room, but at least we could see what we had and decide where to put it. We're still arranging and sorting to this day, but we've made enough headway at this point to have a comfortable family room, an organized if messy kitchen, a finished Lucas bedroom, a functional master bedroom with an organized walk-in closet (!), a crib set up for Baby, and a clean guestroom with freshly-made queen size bed ready for our first visitors! (Hint, hint) :)

We've also tried to make some time to enjoy our new surroundings by hitting a few local restaurants, getting to know the neighbors, and hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains! Well, Laith and Lucas did that last one. I hung out with my huge unwieldy self in the car and ate a sandwich. :)

Look at my CUTE birthday cake! I love it when Laith dresses Lucas up as something adorable for special occasions! For my last birthday he was a peppermint patty! :)

Probably one of my favorite things about our new home is that Lucas gets to experience cul-de-sac living. There are tons of kids on the street and in the neighborhood who all come out to ride bikes, play kickball, and generally cavort around. The parents sit on the curb to supervise and chat. It makes us so happy that Lucas is so well-liked that bunches of kids have already knocked on our front door to see if he wants to come out and play (even our 11 year old next door neighbor)!
