Picnic

This is Lucas' friend Sufyan. They are 3 1/2 months apart in age and live across the street from each other. Jenna, Ravyn (Sufyan's mommy) and Lucas all hung out on the picnic blanket in the backyard and had lunch together today. The weather was perfect, we could sit down and eat slowly (a rare thing for new parents!), and everyone was in a good mood. What a great way to spend the afternoon!
During today's date, the boys participated in a synchronized stretching class
after which Lucas became very hungry (?)
I love it that Sufyan seems to have no clue that there's another baby next to him teething on his hand and that Lucas seems to have no clue that his 'teething toy' is another baby!

5 months old today!

A snapshot of Lucas' milestones met before age 5 months:
* He can sit propped on two hands as long as he doesn't twist, turn or reach for anything (fat chance!)
* He can roll front to back and back to front with ease but luckily hasn't linked those together for locomotion!
* He laughs out loud (the most joyful sound!)
* He can beat-box! (See video below)

My 1st PostPartum 5k

32:50. My next goal is to beat at least one of the runners in the 9 and under age group! :)
I've got a long way to go to get back to the the 8:30miles I was getting pre-pregnancy but that means I'll have lots of great goals to aim for along the way. This was a really enjoyable race in east Austin and I hope to run it again next year with Lucas in the jogger!

Kate and Kari's Visit!

My friend from grad school, Kari, and my new friend, Kate, came to visit this past week from Oregon. It was so great to see Kari again and finally meet her girlfriend Kate. To celebrate the arrival of these two northern girls, Austin decided to have a short stretch of really hot weather. It was in the 80's and got up to 90 one day too. Crazy- now it's back down to the high 60's. Anyway, we had a great time playing outside, had a BBQ, and they got to go see some musical acts in town for the SXSW festival. Lucas enjoyed them both- especially their funny noises and faces. It was a little tough for me because visits with Kari usually mean lots of boisterous fun and laid-back socializing packed into one day. Having a baby puts a bit of a damper on that because Lucas naps 3 times a day and eats 6 times a day and is only awake for 2 hours at a time. It's hard to schedule around that and also hard to fully relax when my mom-radar is always on. Laith was great though and watched Lucas on 2 different occasions so that we could enjoy a brunch at Whole Foods/walk on Town Lake with our friends Cheasty and Danae
and a 3 mile hike at McKinney Falls.
We're looking forward to visiting Kari and Kate in Bend this September when Lucas is napping one less nap a day, eating solids, and more able to participate in our fun!

Lucas' Latest Stats

We had a pediatrician appt today... Lucas is exactly 4 1/2 months old, 15 lbs 8 oz and 26 inches long. His height is in the 80th percentile and weight is 50th. Do we have another lean and tall Vincent on our hands? :)

Dad and Janice's Visit

My Dad and Janice came to see us from Guam last week and got to meet their grandson for the first time! Lucas really enjoyed all the attention and I enjoyed having an extra pair or 2 of hands. We went on a few stroller rides and a few trips to Whole Foods. Saturday Laith and I went on a lunch date at Blue Dahlia (one of our favorite restaurants) while Dad and Janice watched Lucas. It was so exciting for us that we got dessert and spent some of the meal in silence reading our own newspapers. :) When we got back, Lucas was napping and we had even more time to relax. All in all a great visit!

Best Morning Ever

It's cold, dark and gray outside, raining and blustery, thundering in the distance. Laith just left for work and I'm lying in bed with my soft, warm and snuggly baby who still smells like last night's bath. Ahhhh, heaven!

Virginia Visit

I recently read an article in the paper about "mom-nesia" and I definitely have it. You'd think the one thing I wouldn't forget on a trip out of town would be my camera. It's practically glued to my body. Somehow, I managed to leave for the airport without it on our trip to Virginia. So, photos here are courtesy of family who did NOT forget THEIR cameras. :)
We had a great visit- all 5 of the Vincent siblings were there, Laith's mom came to town from West Virginia to see us all, and a couple of the aunts and uncles also came by for a visit to oooh and ahh over our beautiful baby boy! We also finally were able to complete our family tree wall hanging for Lucas' room. We wish we had the space to include the hands of the entire extended family, but then it would be too big for his walls! :) We'll include the great aunts/uncles and 2nd cousins in a written family tree in his baby book and with all the photos we'll be taking in subsequent visits when I DO remember my camera!
