Baby boy photo shoot

The lighting in Lucas' room this morning was so perfect that I had to break out the camera. Of course it didn't hurt that he was being irresistibly cute!
It was hard to pick just a few pictures for this posting so if you want to see more, go to www.flickr.com/photos/jbvincent

Greenbelt Fun

This weekend was unseasonably warm and BEAUTIFUL. So, as we've done every nice weekend since Lucas was 2 weeks old, we went on a family outing. Lucas went rock climbing the first time after watching Daddy's fancy footwork.

Our friend, Daniel, joined us and managed to climb like this in jeans, a sweater and cowboy boots! Can't wait to see what he can do with climbing attire!

Lucas is 3 months old today

Lucas is officially out of his "4th trimester". He has really come a long way from those first few weeks when all he wanted was to be wrapped up tight and held all day long so that it felt like he was still in the womb. I thought I'd post a few photos to show his growth and change over the past 3 months. Surprisingly, this outfit still fits him even though he's almost doubled his size since that initial 1 pound weight loss after birth.
I had the opportunity to weigh Lucas yesterday when we went in for a doctor appt (to see if he had an infection...really stinky pee). He's 13 pounds 8 oz. Still 60th percentile for a 3 month old.

When will we learn?

These past 3 weeks we've gotten to know Lucas well enough that we've been able to run through his personalized list of things to make him stop fussing- but tonight nothing was working. We tried feeding him, rocking him, changed his diaper, offered the pacifier, sang to him, played with him, gave him a change of scenery and still he was squirming and crying and making sad faces. Finally, after 90 minutes of this, we heard a long, low rumble that Laith likes to call "motorcycle pants". This has happened at least 3 times before- Lucas fussing inconsolably because he's working on one of his signature 2-person hazmat poop projects. And each time we think it's something else. We even cracked open our Baby 411 instruction book to see what was wrong. But it was just good old fashioned poop. Afterwards he completely passed out and was asleep for the night. When will we learn? :)

Another milestone!

Lucas and Laith were playing on his bedroom floor this evening and I went in to take pictures of them. Luckily, as I had the camera to my eye, Lucas rolled over for the first time ever! He went from tummy to back and towards his left side. Just like his first smile, this "first" was performed under low light conditions so tilt your monitor to get a good view of the video. The still photos are of his first roll and the video is of his third roll! Yay, Lucas!

He looks like such a little doll in this photo- check out his head proportion to his torso- so cute!

This expression just cracks me up!

Cute Mr. Baby

These are old pictures (from the Horton visit) but I wanted to post them because I like them so much :)

Doctor Appt.

Lucas got his first shots today. We decided to split the immunizations between two visits (3 weeks apart) to minimize side effects and it's a good thing because after that first needle went into his cute chubby thigh and he started to cry big alligator tears, I wanted to swoop him up into my arms right away. If we were doing the standard vaccination schedule, I would have had to watch him get jabbed 3 more times after that. Luckily it was just one more and I could hold him and comfort him right away. I'm so attached to Lucas and so protective of him that I have a new appreciation for the strength and restraint my parents showed as I was growing up and they let me go out and experience the world. I had more independence than most of my peers and I think I really benefitted from that. Hopefully I'll be able to be the same way with Lucas- but while he's a little baby, I'm going to be quite the mama bear. :)
For all those who care about such things, here are Lucas' stats:
height: 23 1/2 inches (60th percentile for a 2 1/2 month old)
weight: 12 pounds 11 ounces (also 60th percentile)

New Years Day hike

We thought all the revelers would be sleeping it off New Years Day but we were very wrong. There were so many families at this out-of-the-way park in Belton, you'd think we were at an amusement park! Luckily we found an offshoot trail and still got the beautiful, peaceful hike we were hoping for.
